Our eyes can be sneaky.
Your eyes can change gradually — sometimes, without us even noticing. And while blurry vision might bring you in, it’s what you don’t notice that makes eye exams so essential. Conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and even signs of diabetes or high blood pressure can show up in the eyes before symptoms start.

A comprehensive exam is your first line of defense — not just for clear sight, but for lifelong eye health.
What to expect at your eye exam.
Here's what a typical visit includes:
  • A review of your vision and lifestyle needs
  • Vision testing to check clarity, focus, and eye coordination
  • Screening for common eye diseases and chronic conditions
  • Retinal imaging or dilation (when needed for a deeper look)
  • Time for questions — with answers that make sense
We don’t rush through appointments, and we never talk over your head. You’ll leave knowing you can make a confident decision for your (and your family’s) eyes.

When we say “for life”, we mean it.

Eye health isn’t just about seeing 20/20 — it’s about protecting your vision at every age. From little eyes to wise eyes, it’s important that everyone gets their eyes checked!

Kids

Early exams help catch issues that affect learning and development. We recommend your child have their first eye appointment at 6 months, then again at 3 years, and every two years after.

Adults

Even if your vision feels fine, annual checkups help track changes and catch problems early.

Seniors

We’ll keep an eye on current diagnoses like macular degeneration or glaucoma, update your prescriptions, and manage your dry eyes so that you can keep your vision clear and comfortable.

High-risk patients

Sudden vision loss, infections, or injuries require immediate attention. We’ll help you with quick, expert eye care to protect your vision when it matters most.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get an eye exam?

It depends on your age and health:

  • Kids: At 6 months, 3 years, and every 2 years after
  • Adults: Once a year, even if your vision seems fine
  • Seniors: Every year, to monitor age-related changes
  • High-risk patients: As recommended — often annually or more frequently

Do I need an eye exam if I have perfect vision?

Yes. Many serious eye conditions develop without noticeable symptoms. Regular exams can detect issues early, before they affect your sight.

What about contact lens exams?

A comprehensive eye exam typically does not include a contact lens fitting. So you may need to schedule a separate contact lens exam. Just let us know when you book your appointment — we’ll make sure you’re scheduled for the right care.

Will I need my eyes dilated?

Possibly. Dilation allows us to get a better view of the back of your eye, especially if you’re at risk for certain conditions. In some cases, we may use advanced retinal imaging instead. We’ll let you know what’s best for you.

How long does a comprehensive eye exam take?

Plan for about 45 to 60 minutes. We take our time to make sure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident in your care.

Is an eye exam covered by insurance?

Many vision insurance plans cover comprehensive eye exams. If you're unsure about your coverage, give us a call — we’re happy to help you check your benefits.
